Odd Fucking Future – 05.10.10, The Drop, London

By now you should’ve all heard of Odd Future (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All to be precise), as we’ve been covering them like fan boy little bitches for the last couple of weeks, but we don’t care because they’re fucking dope and there’s not enough of what they got in this game anymore. Toys take note.

When I heard O.F. were playing their first London date I actually got a bit excited like the first time I saw Wu or a group of that calibre, which I thought was a bit weird for a grown man getting excited by a bunch of 18 year old skate rats from L.A. but I was and they completely smashed the fuck out of any Hip Hop show I’ve seen in the last 5-6 years.

The show was all a bit exclusive and hipster heavy for my liking, and we had to wait fucking ages for them to make an appearance while we drank overpriced beer and smoked boredom cigarettes. But when the D.J. stop playing and the crowd started chanting SWAG and DOPE BEAT CLAP (a quote from an O.F. Youtube favourite), it went off.

Leftbrain, Hodgy Beats and Mike G barged their way on to the stage followed by their harem of chicks and a dude in a green bally with an upside down cross scrawled on to it, which turned out to be Tyler the Creator. There was a notable absence from Earl Sweatshirt who has apparently been sent to boot camp by ma’dukes, poor little fucker.

They were instantly mental like they had the energy of 4 Busta Rhymes and I think quite taken aback (in a good way) by the warm reception from the London crowd who seemed to know the words to every track.

All the rhymes were super clear and professionally delivered and they all got mad involved in the moshing and hype, which is always good. They were even good sports about some strange, out of it Shoreditch type attempting a stage invasion, they just took photos of him and offered him up to any Jeffery Dahmer characters who might have been lurking in the crowd.

It was a shame that they only got half an hour to perform because I could’ve stomached a lot more, but highlights of the show were: Tyler dropping French -which was one of the funnest times I’ve had at gig in a very long time, and Mike G dropping some ill shit over some rock-steady reggae isht.

All in all it was crazy, stoopid, manically depressed dope and you should expect very big things from these cats in the future.
