ServiceStation1If you ever go on the iTunes music store and look at podcasts, the number one or number two is always a radio show called This American Life, you probably ignore it and go straight to Adam and Joe, because you like to stick with what you know and those guys are pretty funny.

BUT you should download it once in a while cos it’s this brilliant slice of life type show in a similar vein to John Peel’s Home Truths (in that it’s the lives of normal folks explored by intelligent people with nice, comforting voices) except it’s extra interesting because it’s about ‘American things’, as Alan Partridge would say. It’s presented by a guy called Ira Green and they’ve also turned it into a TV show.

This week on the radio, however, they’ve gone to a rest stop (motorway service station for those of us this side of the Atlantic) in upstate New York, talking to the people just passing through, the people who work there and even someone who’s been there for 40 years.

Our boy Dom over at Voodoo Village liked the bit where they talk to some brothers about sitting in the back of the car together that he put it up on his site, and I’ve pinched it of him for you to have a listen to, too. It is totally adorable and will remind you of your parents having to pull over to separate you from your siblings’ throats.

Thanks Dom!
