MAGICAL JACKSON
WORDS: ADELE AUSTIN
Though Thriller, originally scared the living daylights out of me as a kid, and arguably still does cause the prosthetics worked like a charm on the dancers and the narrating voiceover at the end of the choreography was enough to make anyone squirm; my favourite MJ video/track of all time would have to be 1987’s The Way You Make Me Feel. He simply eluded the perfect image of a smooth talker, specially when he shuts everyone up with a single “Hey!”. The dancing with the ground humping, and the shirt tearing were also quite memorable. The guy was fucking brilliant.
When’s the first time you heard it?
Heard it for the first time on a weekend at my aunt’s when I was about 6 or 7.
What does it remind you of?
Dancing in the dark, Fire hydrants, and fog – it made them all look so cool. And the girl had this really awesome dress, and her hair was on point, I wanted to be her, bad.
