I often come home after work to find my flatmates squished on our teeny tiny sofa (a cat got in our house and pissed all over the other one) giggling at something or other on the internet. Last night’s find was probably their best thus far.

They stumbled across Pogo, a 21 year old Australian who takes sounds from children’s films and turns them into electronic tracks. It’s an idea that could go very wrong, but he’s done the opposite and produced some really beautiful songs. Alice (guess the film, guess the film, go on, guess the film!) is his most popular, but my favourite is Expialidocious. And not just because I had a pretty big crush on Bert the chimney sweep as a kid. The track is composed of a sine wave bass, custom drum sequences, and sounds recorded from the Disney film ‘Mary Poppins’. I literally just copy and pasted that from YouTube; there’s no other way to say it plus I don’t really know what a ‘sine wave bass’ is. There, I said it.

As well as making songs out of ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Hook’ and the like, he’s also made some original tracks and a short film. His mother must be proud. And if internet rumours are anything to go by, he’s on the verge of being signed.
