There are some words and sayings that become so overused that they loose all meaning and significance – credit crunch, swine flu, and in music, lo-fi and DIY are examples of these. But sometimes you just have to go with the flow and use them. Firstly because they are the best fit, but also because you’re lazy!
For example, Bristol-based Markland Starkie, also known as Sleeping States, makes a dreamy lo-fi pop with a DIY aesthetic that’s just lovely stuff.
The first single off his new album ‘Gardens Of The North’ is ‘Gardens Of The South’, see what he’s done there, and is released today on limited edition cassette – a nice kitsch touch.
