People are strange when you’re a stranger

The Doors wrote that 1967 and I think it’s a pretty apt credo for anthropological LOL-fest People of Walmart.

I asked the guys behind the blog some questions to see what it’s all about. Their answers were a little dry, but I guess they were too busy trawling through photo submissions and coming up with great puns for their excellent blog.

For us in the UK, what is Walmart?
Walmart can best be described as your go to store for your every day needs. It’s a place where you can pick up everything that you need in one shot.

How much do you love Walmart?
Walmart is fantastic. They have the lowest prices on just about everything and some of  the best people watching that you can find.

Why did you start the blog?
We first started the blog just to kill some extra time that we had. We thought that we could get some laughs from our group of friends and that was about it. We had no clue that it would get as big as it has.

What do you think it is about Walmart that draws in such “interesting” people?
Walmart is the largest retailer in the country, if no the world, so you are bound to see a lot of colorful characters.

Are the people of Walmart typically American?
Yes, simply because most of the Walmarts are located here in the U.S.

Do you have a favourite People of Walmart person?
Our favorite, hands down, is the paint huffer. I think the post was titled “Need More Supplies”. He has gold spray paint all over his mouth, shirt, pants, and shoes. Classic.

Short but sweet answers.

I think of Walmart like the last remaining watering hole on the African Savannah at the end of the dry season. All the animals are drawn to it because they need the water. So you get to see naturally rare and solitary creatures coaxed out of hiding and forced to interact (I’ve been watching a lot of Life recently, so thank Sir David Attenborough for that analogy).

One of the best things about the People of Walmart are the outfits, here are some of the best.
