Saturday night saw the first in the new series of the X-Factor and the start of the countdown to some dreary nobody securing the Christmas number 1. But although the X-Factor producers have thoroughly fucked up the show – autotuning the contestants and cranking the hysteria up to 11 – the ever so brave Mrs Cole is a welcome constant.
