09Doesn’t it seem like ages ago that there wasn’t any internet?

When you wanted to hear new music you had to fucking buy it from a shop (although I once remember phoning a Teletext phone number to hear the new Lush album piped down the line) and when you wanted porn you had to find it on a railway siding or suffer the indignity of buying it from the newsagent’s wife (and of course none of it was hardcore).

Also, social networking didn’t exist so no one was friends with more than three people at a time and the only way you could look at a girl’s holiday photos was to go round their house and steal them.

Life is so much better now, everyone’s connected, I have 118 gigabytes of music I didn’t pay for and I’ve seen every kind of porn that ever existed without even having to risk death on a railtrack.

I even work for a website (this website dummy) and I’ll probably work for other online things after this, because that’s the way my ‘career’ seems to be going (YEAH I’M A PROFESSIONAL BLOGGER BITCHES), so for me the internet isn’t just a commodity, it’s a lifestyle, yo.

I love the internet so much that if I had a band I would probably call it Internet Forever and play cool lo fi rock with sweet sounding keyboards, but someone else has already done it. So, the next best thing I suppose I could do is get Lewis Chaplin to take a few photos of the band in that house full of crystals that Mark went to and ask them a few questions.

LW = Laura Wolf
CA = Christopher Alcxxk
HB = heartbeeps

Who is in Internet Forever and what do they do?
LW: I am Laura and I mostly sing but also play keyboards and drums.
CA: I am Chris and I play drums and keyboard and just generally fuck around with things.
HB: I’m Craig, otherwise known as Heartbeeps, and I play a guitar, a keyboard, and do some singing and shouting.  We swap instruments a lot on stage.

How long have you been Internet Forever?
LW: We started Internet Forever 15 months ago. But we didn’t start playing shows til February this year.

02

Did you meet on the Internet?
LW: Me and Heartbeeps were internet friends for years and then one day he commented on this blog I used to write saying he wanted to start a band called Internet Forever. I asked if I could be in it and he said yes. The next weekend I went to his house and we wrote our song ’3D’. Me and Chris met in a club a couple of years before that.

You like cassettes huh?
LW: I started a tape label called Tape Alarm to release a tape of all our old/live recordings and covers so I quite like them. I think since the advent of digital music I have started buying more tapes and records because I like them as objects. People make an effort to present them nicely. With CDs people don’t seem to bother so much. A lot of my favourite UK bands have released stuff on tape. Recently I’ve bought tapes by Chaps, Roseanne Barr and Deep Shit.
CA: CDs are fucking shit and vinyls pretty expensive to make, so that leaves tapes really.

Why do you think people have spent so long worrying about fidelity?
LW: Because conjugal faithfulness is nice.
CA: Semper fidelis. SEMPER.

What are your favourite things about the internet?
LW: I like being able to perv on other peoples lives.
HB: Mahir Cagri.

What are your favourite websites?
LW: I like the wiki list of X-Files episodes because it’s really detailed.
HB:  I use Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Guardian Unlimited and BBC News pretty much everyday.

Have you ever met anyone in real life that you met on the internet?
HB: I’ve met a lot of internet people at Internet Forever shows.
CA: Pretty much everyone i know is in some way a result of the internet. I 100% would not exist in any recognisable form without the internet.

Internet Forever have a single out on the 16th of November called Cover The Walls, I’ve streamed it for you below, because I love the internet so much. THE INTERNET IS FUCKING BRILLIANT.
