Last weekend Sandy Kim went to Pitchfork festival in Chicago and hung out with Girls, The Smith Westerns, Real Estate and Neon Indian. She came back with this exclusive set of photos for Platform which she says is basically of “a shit ton of boys”.
It’s been almost two months since Colby and I moved from San francisco to New York. So far we’ve downgraded to a dungeon that houses rats and a kitchen that’s perpetually submerged in grease. There are roaches the size of my thumb and silverfish the size of my hand. Our closet is made out of used plastic bags, our bed is covered in cum, our shower is broken, and the hallway reeks of dead rats.
Usually band’s tour diaries are full of overexposed pictures of the band getting drunk and sometimes, if you’re very lucky, being sick. Not in this case. This tour diary really is the best we’ve ever seen at Platform and the secret to its success is that the amazingly talented Sandy Kim was behind the camera.
This is a life in San Francisco as seen by Sandy Kim. I’m guessing her photography may be a love/hate thing with readers, but like them or loath them her images slap you in the face and drag you into her world. There are the parts of life that are beautiful, those that are mundane and those that are hands down nasty.
